In 1999 we established the SmartMove Rent Bond Guarantee Scheme in Derry in conjunction with the homeless charity ‘Crisis’, and in 2003 we replicated the SmartMove concept in North Belfast to assist single homeless people access options of permanent housing in the private rented sector.

The SmartMove Scheme provides a wide range of services including tenancy support, mediation and good quality affordable accommodation to people who are homeless and people in need of suitable rehousing. We also offer tenancy deposit protection and advice on all aspects of tenant and landlord law to promote good practice and compliance with housing legislation.

The aim of the Scheme is to:-

Reduce incidences of single homelessness and accommodate the housing and support needs of homeless populations in Derry, Strabane, Limavady and North Belfast.
Offer options for ‘move on’ for people living in hostels and temporary accommodation.
Provide advocacy, support and outreach services to tenants living independently for the first time.
Advance the take-up of training and employment opportunities amongst tenants.
Protect the investment potential and reputation of the private rented sector through the dissemination of good practice.
Ensure adequate legislative protection of landlords and tenants in the private rented sector.
